The Homestead Ski AreaThe Homestead Ski Area in the Allegheny Mountains is located at Hot Springs, Virginia. This four seasons resort is over two centuries old; and was designated a National Historic Landmark. The ski area, added in 1959 made this the South's first alpine ski resort. Homestead is known for its luxurious dining and lodging accommodations, having hosted numerous US Presidents that came for the famous spas and golfing. The ski area is small, however it is known for its wide slopes and family ambience. Skiing and snowboarding lessons are available; there is a family sized tubing area, a children's area for tubing and mini snowmobiles and Snowmobile Tours for the family are available both day and evening. There is cross country skiing, snowshoeing trails and an outdoor ice skating rink.
